World premiere of the musical 'Churchill' in the Allgarve'10

Described as the biggest show the Algarve has seen for the last ten years, "Churchill- The Musical" has its red carpet world premiere on Friday 1st of October in Lagoa in an Allgarve’10 programme event.

This Broadway style production was written by Derek Charles Ash and Trevor Holman and is directed by Ray Jeffery.

The show portrays both the public and private life of Sir Winston Churchill, from his marriage to Clemmie, through to his retirement from all forms of public life. The producers claim it is an emotional rollercoaster, with an onstage cast of 50 actors, singers and dancers and a backstage crew of 25.

The Allgarve’10 programme spokesperson states this is the "first show to have its debut in Portuguese stages to rival with any of the Broadway productions".

The stage play of "Churchill- The Musical" was written by Derek Charles Ash and Trevor Holman in just six months (lyrics and tunes).

Both the writers and producers considered several UK theatres for the debut, but they decided that as the show was written and created in the Algarve it would be only right to have the world premiere and opening run in the Algarve. The known passion of Churchill for Portugal, especially for Madeira and Lisbon, were also relevant for the choice.

The show is being directed by Ray Jeffery whose career in the theatre encompasses over four decades during which time he has directed or choreographed over a thousand musicals including the “Fiddler on the Roof”, “La Cage Aux Folles”, “Billy Elliot” and the world famous “Les Miserables”.
