Olhão Seafood Festival is said to be the biggest of its kind in Portugal. For more than 30 years, every August, thousands of people have flocked to Olhão to eat their fill of seafood and enjoy live music concerts, featuring some of the best artists in Portugal.
Dozens of restaurants take part in the event and there are so many different types of seafood on offer, caught locally in the Ria Formosa, that it can take the whole six days to sample them all!
During the 34th edition, the Olhão Seafood Festival again showed why it has become the most important gastronomic event in the south of the country.
The event, which took place from 9 to 14 August, has reinvented itself, especially with regard to entertainment, and brought crowds back to Jardim Pescador Olhanense and set records for selling tickets and shellfish.
“After more than three decades of the Seafood Festival, we understood that it was time to give it a new breath and a new dynamic” said the president of the local authority, António Miguel Pina at the closing of the event, ensuring that “this was a winning bet. This year we had a younger festival with a new look, but one that has not lost sight of its two fundamental pillars: the best cuisine and a luxury music line up. ”
“This was the best Seafood Festival of the last 15 years,” concluded the mayor.
The 34th edition of the event featured several innovations, including aerial animation, which opened each night of the event and captivated those present.
Visitors to Olhão Seafood Festival can get a car hire at Faro airport and drive freely from Faro to Olhão and enjoy visiting the surroundings.
